We have this one life, right? What are we doing with it? What am I doing with it? A perfectly unperfect lump of clay or dough to create what we will of it. With so many factors and people to consider and simultaneously nothing and no one to consider. Our life and what we make of it…a scale of making decisions solely for ourselves, perhaps taking our own morals or integrity into consideration.
This raises a big question how important is what you do for a living? How you spend the majority of your time – How important is this in the grand scheme of your life and happiness, and how much fulfillment do you get by doing something morally gratifying vs something that goes against morales, yours or the greater goods.
If you have a very strict moral code that you follow…where did you get it from?
Was it handed down from family? Through childhood stories or tales? Religion? Your own compass?
Have you questioned your own moral code?
Do you live by it when trading in the majority of your time for financial compensation?
Let’s say Career One: Involves Cleaning up Oil spills, doesn’t pay great, you get by, but you feel really good about the tangible good you do in the world.
Career two: You are involved in creating or covering up oil spills. Pay is Great. You may have convinced yourself that spilling oil isn;t really bad for the environment.
Career Three: You have a desk job filling out forms that don’t seem to have a positive or negative impact. It’s a position that is redundant at pest and could probably be better suited as an app or website. But the pay is ok.
In recruiting I hear a lot about people’s stories and I’m surprised how frequently people don’t plan out that next career step, don’t know what they want and fall into something because it came their way or someone recommended it.
What if we took a moment to plan out life for the most Joy? Taking into consideration not to be too bent out of shape if the path there isn’t a smooth one, but still strategizing for the ultimate happiness and a life that isn’t just happening to us….
What would make you the most happy?
How important would your work lining up with your integrity and values be to your happiness and feeling of fulfillment?
If AI can lead to building crazy amounts of wealth leaving many jobs less of a necessity…would your community benefit of people had more free time, basic income and the ability to pursue passions in line with their integrity and giving back? Or, would people only be self obsessed if you took major sources of their stresses away, would they stop developing without difficulities to overcome??
Just some food for thought on this rainy Thursday…
Also….after this post I am out a computer that hopefully the repair tech guy can fixed…so too be continued when I can get another post up…fingers crossed.
Pura Vida,
